Flags

As the corona crisis hit, most people got locked-in in some fashion. For some, it meant travel restrictions. Others got imprisoned in their homes. The lockdowns affected human movement in unprecedented ways and on an unimaginable scale.

The notion of borders gained an outsized impact. People found themselves confined to one side of a boundary versus another. Countless families and loved ones got separated. For some unfortunates, the locales of their captivity spelled death sentences.

Flags are about relationships of an individual and various banners over their heads. What are those banners of? A country? A city? A continent? Citizenship? What belongs to the flag? What does it stand for? And is having it over one’s head a trap or a privilege?
