DRAW International Artist Residency

In the summer of 2021, I took part in DRAW international artist residency.

"Drawing from Trees" is a drawing project that looks at what it takes to "learn from nature" on the example of a tree. I first outfitted some trees to produce drawings, then learned to draw and created several pictures with the same quality of tree-ness. While abstract and aloof, these drawings are neither meditation nor trance. Instead, the task was to look and see and consciously make choices while producing an organic-looking work. While the large-scale works espouse some intent and composition, the smaller pieces grow and develop without having a simple goal. The only certainty is that the change happens. The question of evolution is left intentionally open. For a tree, it is irrelevant.
